Computer Hardware & its Categories?

The physical parts of a computer are called Hardware. Hardware can be touched or seen by the user.


Different examples of computer hardware are as follows:

    • Input devices such as keyboard, mouse and joystick
    • Processing device such as central processing unit (CPU)
    • Output devices such as printer and monitor
    • Storing devices such as hard drive, flash drive and optical disc
    • Memory chips such as RAM and ROM

A Computer Hardware consists of physical components such as CPU, monitor, mouse, keyboard, computer data storage, graphics card, sound card, speaker and motherboard to perform any sequence of instructions.


There are two major categories of Computer Hardware are that:

  1. Internal Computer Hardware Components
  2. External Computer Hardware Components

1. Internal Computer Hardware Components

External hardware components, also called peripheral components, are often attached to external computers to control input or output functions. These tools are designed to provide guidance for programs or implementation results. There are following common input hardware components include the following are that:

  • Mouse:  It should be a hand-me-down catcher that sends selections around the computer and interacts with objects on the screen. It can be trivial or insignificant. It may be wire and wireless.
  • KeyboardA keyboard is an input device with standard QWERTY key combinations that allow the user to enter text, numbers or special characters.
  • Microphone:  A microphone is a device that converts sound waves into electrical signals and supports computer-based audio communication.
  • Camera:  The camera captures images and transfers them to a computer or network device.
  • Touchpad:  A touchpad is an input device built into an external computer or laptop that controls the cursor on the screen. This is usually an alternative to the external mouse.
  • USB flash Drive:  A USB flash drive is a portable external storage device that uses flash memory and communicates with a computer via a USB port.
  • Memory Card:  A memory card is an external storage device that can be used to store media files, such as a compact flash card.
  • Joystick:  A joystick is an input device that controls the speed of a pointer or pointer to a computer. Pointing motion is controlled by turning the lever on the joystick. Input tools are mostly used for gaming applications and sometimes for graphics applications. A joystick can be useful as an input device for people with poor mobility.
  • Scanner:  An image scanner – often limited to scanners – is a device that scans and converts an image, printed text, signature, or anything else into a digital image. Various desktop scanners are commonly used in offices with glass windows to scan documents.

2. External Computer Hardware Components

There are following common External Computer Hardware Components include the following are that:

  • Monitor:  A monitor is a computer-controlled source of information, documents, or images created by a computer.
  • Printer:  The printer transfers the electronic information from the computer to the printing press. A printer is a device that accepts text and graphics from a computer and transfers information to paper, usually standard format, 8.5 x 11 paper. The most popular ineffective printers are inkjet printers and laser printers.
  • Speaker:  Speakers are external audio devices that are connected to a computer to produce audio output. In audio equipment, an amplifier is an audio-electric transformer, a device that converts an electrical audio signal into corresponding audio.

What is hardware virtualization?

Hardware virtualization is the integration of a computer’s physical resources with software that uses those resources. In short, when software is used to create hardware instead of using physical and virtual hardware components for certain computer functions, it is called hardware virtualization.

Hardware virtualization sometimes called platform or server virtualization, is performed by programs hosted on a hardware platform. Requires a virtual device manager called a hypervisor that creates virtual versions of internal devices. It allows physical devices to share and use hardware resources between operating systems and applications.


In cloud computing, hardware virtualization is often associated with infrastructure in the form of a service (IaaS), a delivery model that distributes high-speed Internet and hardware resources. The cloud includes all on-premises hardware components, including web services (such as Amazon web services or Microsoft Azure), servers, storage devices, and networks.

It separates IaaS and CSP from the hardware as a service provider (HaaS) and does not host the software. IaaS providers offer a variety of services in addition to infrastructure components such as:

  • Billing
  • Monitoring
  • Log Access
  • Security
  • Load Balancing
  • Clustering

Some CSPs offer storage recovery services such as automatic backup, duplication, and disaster recovery.

What is hardware as a service?

While it is common for individuals or businesses to purchase and replace computers on a regular basis, they can rent both physical and virtual hardware from their service providers. The vendor is responsible for updating the hardware, including the various hardware components and the software running on it. She is known as Haas model.


The main advantage of Haas is that it reduces hardware purchase and maintenance costs, allowing the company to move to an operating budget lower than capital costs. Because most HaaS offerings are also based on the payment model you use, it makes it easier for companies to control costs regardless of the hardware required for the continuity of work and business.

In Haas, managed hardware (MSP) hardware is installed at the client site. The Service Level Agreement (SLA) defines the responsibilities of both the parties. The customer may pay a monthly fee for the use of the MSP device or its use for the installation, inspection and maintenance of the device may be included in the MSP Payment Framework. MSP is responsible for repairing or replacing equipment, even if it is damaged or obsolete. Devices subject to the Terms of Service Agreement (SLA) may include destruction of property data, physical damage to hard drives, and legal receipt of second-hand goods.
