Pits and Lands in CD’s

 

The information from the CDs is stored in a series of small bundles called “pits” in the helical path in the polycarbonate layer. The spaces between the pits are called “lands”. Each hole is approximately 100 nm deep, 500 nm wide, and 850 nm to 3.5µm wide.
